Mayday's Profile

I was diagnosed in February 2011 - stage 3B anal squamous cell carcinoma with spread to the inguinal and abdominal lymph nodes. I first went to the doctors in April 2010 - they told me the little lumps were just skin flaps and a routine biopsy was delayed twice Treatment started in April 2011 after 2 months of tests to ensure I wasn't stage 4. I live on the outskirts of London with my partner our daughter, who was 14 when I was diagnosed and is now (2015) 18, 2 cats and a dog. I live in London, UK and was treated at North Middlesex Hospital for whom I have nothing but praise. Used to manage social care projects then started an M.Sc in social work when the bombshell of anal cancer struck and I dropped out. Now I work part time as a development manager for a small local charity. 4 years post treatment I still have some problems with my anal sphincter muscle which has been damaged and some damage to the delicate skin around the labia causing soreness but otherwise I feel fine.
